When Quilts Come Home- REPOST from Humble Quilts

REPOST

This is a cool story from September 2024!

I had this adorable mostly madder partial quilt top in my Etsy store and sold it recently to Betsy Chutchian. Here is her message to me after the top arrived including the photo below.

Top arrived! Thank you Lori. Do you remember where you bought the top? I have a long row of the very same quilt. I saw your section and had to have it. The funny part is I took my part to Terry Thompson’s fabric camp in the 1990’s. She pulled out what looks to be ...

Fun on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

My son sent me this photo recently and asked "how do you know how old a quilt is"

I said you have to be experienced and know fabric. How much were they selling it for and what kind of shape was it in? (He loves to go to yard sales and I assumed that is where it was)

His reply- This is on the ground in my recycling room.

A little back and forth and I told him to grab it- likely 1940-1960

He kept it in a bucket for a few days. Then I told him what I would ...

Tumbling Blocks Quilt Top from Humble Quilts

I wanted to share this lovely tumbling blocks quilt top! The pieces are quite large but I love that you get a good look at the fabrics!!

mmmm, any thoughts what this would be?

My favorite is the newsie! Anybody see that musical movie? It was a favorite of ours when the kids were growing up! They even went out at Halloween once as newsies!

The colors are vibrant and it is expertly hand stitched! I think I found the perfect home for it!!

Let's have an amazing week!

Antique Quilt from Humble Quilts

Last year I purchased this lovely quilt top in Missouri from Jessica. I thought it was fun and quirky and still agree with that assessment.

I finally got it sent off to Sharon to work her magic. We went back and forth a lot about how best to quilt this beauty and keep the integrity of the antique fabric.

It looks like pencil writing on the one piece- 100? 10¢? Some things are meant to stay a mystery,

One dot block fabric is having some issues.

Here is the backing where you can get a good look at the quilting ...

Fun on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

Here are a few lovely quilt tops I have put in my Etsy shop recently. I so enjoy getting up close and personal with these quilts!

I'll post a link under the quilts if you want to see more photos- close up! Most of the handwork in these quilts are superb. I think I need to learn to hand piece!

Incredible Fabric- Quilt Top from Humble Quilts

At first glance this doesn't look too special.

But a closer look reveals more!

This top is beautifully hand pieced.

Minty

The brown geometric prints are stunning!

I'm a little baffled on the minty green. 1860's?

This looks fussy cut to me.

A real beauty! I'd love to know your thoughts on the year for the fabric and quilt.

It is in my Etsy shop!

How To Wash Antique Quilts from Maria the Quilter

Let me preface this post by saying that I do indeed know what I am talking about – I have worked with antique quilts for almost 10 years. There are plenty of other experts out there, and each person will have their favorite method or technique to share. So if you read something different somewhere else, please feel free to get back to me (or them) with questions. We certainly don’t want to damage any of these priceless treasures.

Number one, I will always say, if it’s an old quilt and it doesn’t have to be washed, then ...
